JUNIORS - TRYOUT ADVISE
Extra Information…. not KRVA rules, just advice!
1. Check what you are getting for your Club fee.
a. Ask if the following are included: gym rental, coaches pay, travel
expenses, USAV Registration, tournament entry fees, administration fees
or overhead, uniforms/warm-ups/socks/bags/etc.
b. Ask what other money, if any, you should expect to have to pay outside
of your Club fee.
2. Ask who will coach your child, and which team they will be on. Get
it in writing. Inquire about the coach’s credentials. Question
whether the Club can move your child to another team or level without
your permission.
3. Read the Club policy manual. Beware of clubs that refuse to put their
policies in writing.
4. Your child may NOT play for a reduced fee (in comparison to other
players on the team) without jeopardizing their NCAA eligibility. Accepting
clothing,
travel allowances, equipment or anything that every other player does
not also receive (under the same conditions your child receives it)
also jeopardizes
their NCAA eligibility. You can find the free parent and student NCAA
handbook at http://www.ncaa.org.
5. Ask what will happen if your child becomes injured at any point
during the season.
6. Use the KRVA website at www.krva.org to inform yourself. Read the
Junior Operating Code (under RESOURCES, then FORMS AND RESOURCES);
the specific
rules for each facility – especially regarding food and coolers
(under RESOURCES then DIRECTIONS); and check back often for relevant
information
throughout the season.
7. Attend the annual Juniors meeting in the fall (and/or board meetings
throughout the year) to help the Region leadership get the parent and
player perspectives
and to hear what the Clubs are told for yourself.
8. Ask how many (and specifically which) tournaments the Club is entering.
Ask what happens if the Club/Team withdraws from tournaments or does
not enter the promised number of events.
9. Do your homework before picking a Club!!
