OPEN GYM POLICY
Open gyms that are not sanctioned by the region are not insured
by the region. A club running an unsanctioned open gym is doing so as a private
entity,
not as a club within KRVA. As a club, if you choose to run an unsanctioned
open gym, any liability for injury, misconduct, facility damage or other
issues
resides
with you personally. As a participant, you take on ths same risk if you
attend a non-sanctioned open gym. For clubs and participants, it is important
to know that your membership in KRVA will not provide you any protection
for non-sanctioned open gyms.
REQUEST FROM KRVA TO CLUBS:
When advertising your open gyms, we expect that
you do not mislead people into thinking your event is sanctioned by the
region if
it is not. Saying that KRVA club XYZ is running an open gyms leads people
to believe that you are doing so as a region entity (which you can only
do if you sanction it). If you are not, you should be disclosing that
so as
not to mislead people by using your club name to run a non-sanctioned
event.
Although we cannot stop you from purchasing private insurance and running
non-sanctioned events under another name (or just running uninsured events),
it is the position of the region that it is in the best interest of the
athletes for them to be provided with USAV insurance and the protection
of playing
only with registered members / being coached only by screened adults...therefore
we believe that sanctioning an open gym is the best way to go.
Finally, please note that our Junior Operating Code has always said that
open tryouts MUST be sanctioned by the region. You do not have the choice
to run an unsanctioned tryouts for a KRVA team.
