Personal Note from the Director - Tuesday, August 03, 2010

Dear Athletes,
I would love to see growth in our regional HP program. This year we added a boys team. For 2011, I can envision at least two boys and two girls teams. Start planning now. Watch for tryout and program information in the Fall. Make it your goal to be part of this awsome playing experience. If you have questions in the meantime, parents may contact me at
HP@krva.org or 610-730-6484.

Sincerely,

Howard Vernick
KRVA HP Program Director

HP TEAMS GIVE SOLID PERFORMANCE AT NATIONALS

Congratulations to our 20 athletes and 4 coaches who represented the Keystone Region and State of Pennsylvania at the USAV HP Championships held in Wisconsin Dells, July 25-30.  KRVA sent a Girls Youth Team and Boys Youth International Team to compete in the highly competitive 5-day event.

Our girls' Youth Team finished 6-2 in pool play placing them in a tie for second seed in the playoffs. However, due to tie breaker rules, Keystone Region was placed in the Bronze medal bracket to fight for 3rd place overall. The team defeated Oklahoma region in 4 sets, finishing 3rd in the tournament and taking home a bronze medal.
Our boys' team competed hard all week vs. International teams, USAV teams and Regional HP teams. Although there were some early set wins, their first match win did not occur until later in the week in a very tough 3-2 match against the USAV A-1 team. The boys also won their next match against another USAV team, but lost a 3-1 match against a tough Badgers team in the Bronze division playoffs. The boys played stronger and stronger as the week progressed, and a very close camaraderie developed on the team that was amazing to watch.
Overall both teams competed well and this will be a memorable experience for each of the athletes and coaches.  A huge thanks to the girls team coaches Zach Shaver and Shay Moreno, and the boys team coaches Mike Rumbaugh and Gerry Porr.
